Capturing the New Ektofta at Vår Gård Saltsjöbaden
Hospitality photography is about translating a physical space into a feeling – creating imagery that allows future guests to experience a destination before they arrive.
Set by the water in Saltsjöbaden, just outside Stockholm, Vår Gård is a historic hotel and meeting destination where architecture, art, nature and Scandinavian hospitality come together. As part of the property's continued development, the hotel building Ektofta underwent an extensive transformation, introducing newly renovated guest rooms and new suites designed around warmth, quality and a strong connection to the surrounding landscape.
I was commissioned by Vår Gård Saltsjöbaden to photograph the complete new Ektofta experience, creating the visual material used to introduce the renovated hotel building and its new rooms and suites.
Designed by Studio MJ Design & Arkitektur, the interiors combine warm Scandinavian design with natural materials, muted tones and carefully selected furniture. The result is contemporary yet timeless, reflecting both Vår Gård's history and its unique setting by the sea.
The photography was created to communicate more than the design itself. Throughout the project, I focused on the relationship between light, materials, architecture and the surrounding nature – capturing the details and atmosphere that define the experience of staying at Ektofta.
From the newly designed guest rooms to the spacious sea-view suites and their private terraces, every image was carefully composed to highlight the craftsmanship of the interiors while maintaining a natural and inviting sense of place.
For hospitality photography, creating beautiful images is only part of the assignment. The photography also needs to function commercially – inspiring potential guests, communicating the character of the property and providing the hotel with a versatile visual library across multiple platforms.
The final collection was created as a comprehensive image library for Vår Gård, supporting the launch and ongoing communication of the new Ektofta across the hotel's website, booking platforms, marketing, PR, social media and editorial communication.
For me, photographing Ektofta was about capturing the next chapter of an established destination – translating its new Scandinavian interiors, connection to nature and distinctive Saltsjöbaden setting into imagery that feels warm, timeless and unmistakably Vår Gård.
